This is was one of the most fun favors I have ever seen. Flower bulbs. It was Ashley's idea, and then we got these cool crates. And then I had Beau drive all over Shelby County to get these hay bales. ( We were in Columbiana, for crying out loud. Shouldn't those have just been on the side of the road?) I thought the whole thing turned out pretty cute!

We were really excited about the photo booth, and I made this cute little book for everyone to sign. We used a Polaroid Camera - which I LOVED by the way - then everyone just stuck their pictures to the page and signed! It turned out so cute!

Using Mr. Dave's Vintage Car was the perfect touch!

The whole affair took place at the 4H Center in Columbiana - it was absolutely lovely!

I'm going to ignore the urge to explain why I haven't updated this blog, and just get on to the part where I do. Thought I'd share some of our photographer's photos from Ashley's wedding. Marisa as Flower Girl Master. She was awesome! And Hudson did great - what a handsome little man.
Love this pic - all the girls brought their boots just in case it was rainy and nasty. However, since the weather was PERFECT, they got a shot anyway.
I just love this picture. To think I was responsible in whole or in part for raising these people is nothing short of amazing.

Ashley and Davey got married on Saturday! It was a gorgeous spring day, and everything was so beautiful. Ashley looked amazing, as did everyone! Beau and I feel so very blessed to have such a great family. I felt very overwhelmed and unworthy to have this opportunity, and so very grateful. God has richly blessed us and he has truly given this family beauty for ashes. Thank you to everyone who was there and those who couldn't be but were thinking of us.

Well, it is SUPER nice having a new computer! I love it. What I don't have more of is time. HA!

We are in the throes of wedding planning...Ashley and Davey get married in 3 weeks! Woo hoo! It will be a great day, barring a torrential downpour.

We had a great time at Jennifer and Jeff's wedding, and we are super-happy for the new couple. They are so cute it's disgusting. :)

Drew and Susan and Hudson are in Gatlinburg with her family right now. They are amazing and I'm so super -proud of them.

The countdown is on for Ashley and Davey - 10 weeks from now they will be living in wedded bliss!

Marisa and Beau were working on the armpit noise tonight. You know the one. This is possibly the funniest thing that has ever happened. Trust me on this.

Juju - sigh. So pretty. So three-year-old. Three trumps two. Just in case you were wondering.

Happy to spend time with some family the holidays.

And I'm super happy to announce the newest member joining the family - Jennifer! Beau's brother Jeff met this amazing girl - oh yeah, we seated them next to each other at Thanksgiving because, oh, yeah, she's Davey's sister - and they fell hopelessly in love! So happy engagement to them!

Also, TLC has called us and said there is a slot open for our reality show right after Sarah Palin's Alaska. ;)

Hey, Shutterbugs...Fall is here!
When you love in the deep South, October is more like Indian Summer. And, actually, as I write this, its 78 degrees. But I'm pretty sure it's going to be 60 soon.
Anyhow, it is time for me to start thinking about pictures. Specifically, the Christmas Card. You may remember this from last year, compliments of Shutterfly.

The picture really was perfect.
This year, our family has grown by leaps and bounds so I'm thinking maybe this one or this one.

I think the likelihood of getting us all in ONE shot might be slim. :)

While I'm singing the praises of Shutterfly, I should probably go ahead and order my calendars and maybe some of these. There may be nothing I love more than pictures. Therefore, I really love Shutterfly, because I have always gotten such great quality stuff from them. SO, If you are trying to choose a site to go with this Christmas, I highly recommend.

We said good bye to my sweet Gran yesterday. It was a tough day, but I know she is in a better place. It was nice to hear my pastor speak on the assurance of heaven. Because those of us who know God still grieve, but we grieve with hope. That this life is not all there is. This world is not our home.

We will miss Gran but will see again her one day!

Meeting Hudson... Hudson Miller Davis. Born August 26th, 1:53 pm. 6lbs 12oz, 20 inches long. Baby and parents are doing great! He has a headfull of black hair!

Last few weeks of summer are over, it's back to school time! Ashley is coaching cheerleading/going to graduate school/teaching 7th grade English/planning a wedding. If you are trying to contact her, wait til April. :)

Don't you love her little helpers? Celebrated Susan's birthday and her graduation from nursing school! Baby coming this week!!!!

Planted some irises from My Aunt - excited to see how they turn out. Bout had a heat stroke gettin them in the ground, though.

Look how cute. I made these dresses and their headbands!! I calculated how much they would retail for if I charged by the hour for what it took to make them. They can be yours for only $600.00.

And this was the first day of school. Can't believe Marisa is in 1st grade! And she is completely toothless. She lost 8 total, 3 the week before school started. Ladies and gentlemen, the tooth fairy is tapped out.

Good Morning. A little slice of life. Saturday morning. I'ts too hot to do much outside, though I will try planting some later.

We are watercolor painting. It is always better if I GIVE them something to do.

This is one part giggles, one part "That one's mine!" "She's not sharing!" "Mommy!" "Mommy!!!"

Right now we're giggling. After I threatend to lock them in a hole for the the rest of the day. (Not a real hole. Their rooms.)

And now Marisa informs me that the were laughing because JuJu was trying to be a clown and painted her face.

Marisa goes to camp.

Sounds like a character in a book. Well, she is. I can't believe my big girl went to camp for the first time. 3 nights away from home. She had a blast, but was exhausted. And relatively clean (thank you Teresa and Nicole). We got her a cheap-o digital camera to take with her. Here are a few of the 91 pictures she took. Might I add that between our house and the camp she had already taken 48 pictures by the time we got there. They were of trees, windshields, her sister's arm, leather seats, the floorboard, etc. So we erased those when we dropped her off and let her try again.

What do you think? Potential?
Ha. There were, like, 20 pictures of the bed.
Chapel. She was teaching us ALL kinds of motions tonight.
I mean, why would you do this? Just a glimpse into what I deal with every day.

Lately...

Very quick Beach trip to Gulf Shores. Glad we went before the oil spill comes and ruins everything. Slowly but surely loving it...

Ashley aka super runner/teacher/cheerleading sponsor/grad student sitting down to chat for a quick minute...

Dinner at Lulu's...as in Buffett...as in Jimmy's cousin or sister or something...

The playhouse. They love that thing. Now the neighborhood kids are wanting to come play too. Fine by Marisa the social butterfly.

Feeling better- I had the allergy attack from the pit. Drew and Susan are happy and settled.

Ready to have a date with my husband. Anybody in for a babysitting ring???

I am ready to start crafting again; scrapbooking, sewing, making flowers, taking better pictures.

If anyone out there is looking to produce "Dennis the Menace: the Sequel" with the lead role being a little girl, I have just the person for the job.

Between all her freckles from our beach trip, her new short hair, and her teeth that are falling out every week, she looks like a holy terror!!! But she is as cute as ever and super smart, very intuitive but her child-like candor can be down-right insulting!!!

We are busy as always! The newlyweds are well, Ashley is done with another semester of grad school, Juju is growing like a weed and so is her vocabulary!

Beau and I celebrated 8 years of marriage yesterday, and I can honestly say I love him more now than ever.

I am redoubling my efforts to be a better blogger, if nothing else for my Aunt in California who reads my blog! We love you Aunt Eileen and Uncle Reese!

In OTHER news, our family has grown!!! Drew married the girl he started dating at 15, Susan Savage. The wedding was beautiful! We love Susan and are so happy she is a part of our family!!!

The girls are ECSTATIC that they are sister-in-laws!!!

Seriously, we are halfway through January.

Let's catch up with the Davis family:

Beau and Janna are the same except experiencing more and more organic brain loss every day (Beau more so than Janna. But my day's coming.)

Ashley is the new 7th grade English teacher at Riverchase Middle School, THE cheerleading sponsor and a graduate student in UAB's secondary education Master's program. Her plate is full!!! And, for those of you who get my grandmother's newsletter, Mimi told everyone that Ashley was available. Ashley's boyfriend, Davey, would like for me to let everyone know she is definitely NOT available.

Drew is about to sit for boards to be a Certified Nursing Assistant, and is back in school working towards Nursing (maybe. probably.) His girlfriend Susan is a good influence on him because she'll graduate from nursing school in August. :)

Marisa would like everyone to know she is going to be 6 in a couple weeks and wants a pink guitar. And a puppy. (no on the dog, though we are working on a guitar.)

Julia Reese is part angel, part terrible-two-year-old. We never know. She seems to have a personality disorder these days. She is so sweet when she sings, though. You would never know she had a cleft palate. God is good.

We have been FREEZING here down south, not used to it being this cold at ALL. Come on, Spring.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas! So, I was supossed to keep this up everyday, but... turns out I have really big ambitions but run out of time everyday.

Marisa had a BLAST Christmas Day (of course). Julia Reese did not like all the pressure of opening presents. She wanted to play with the thing in her hand and be left alone! I think Ashley and Drew wanted a little more sleep for Christmas! Funny how the dynamic of Christmas Morning changes through the years. Of course, we have from 2-22 under one roof, but that's another post.

Beau got me TWO pairs of Joe's Jeans (love him!)

Catching up... Which reminds me. Yesterday Beau told Marisa we would "catch up" with her advent calendar since she missed a day. She said, "Why do we need ketchup?"

December 3

Let’s just gloss right over my day at work to the point at which I get home 45 minutes late. 5:30. We’ve got to be at the Library at 6:00 for Gingerbread Village. Thanks to Super Dad, we are all clean and fed and we make it.
It takes all of 6.7 seconds for both kids to get into the FULL swing of decorating the gingerbread house. Pelham Library does a GREAT job of making it a fun experience. Juju did try to eat all the decorations however. But she was so cute when Beau put a butterscotch on the roof, she claps her hands and says “Good job, Daddy!.” Love it.
Drew had his CNA interview today. Hope this is the right move.

Thanks to my WONDERFUL husband, I have a new BFF. My iPhone. Bliss.

December 4

Wow. Trying to keep up with all 25 days of December while simultaneously working from 5:30am to 4 pm and keeping kids clean and fed and healthy or giving moral support or direction, whatever the case may be, is a challenge.
End of whining.
Drew and Susan are going to a progressive dinner. I don’t know why I find that so funny.
We introduced the kids to Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy as there was a Muppett Special on from 7-8.
And while Beau worked out like a good boy, I stitched like a mad woman to finish Juju’s Christmas outfit. *sigh* Done.
December 5

We actually woke up to a dusting of snow. Now, this is a big deal here in the deep South. Especially this early in the season. No snowman today, though, because Church of the Highlands was having a Miss Patty Cake special at 9:30. WooHoo Mimi got Marisa a Miss Patty Cake video years ago. She loved it. I would prefer sticking pins in my eyeballs. And after this morning I know my husband would join me. BUT Marisa LOVED it, Juju sorta loved it, and we DID have a good time.
We wanted to make one stop to visit Ashley at Francesca’s (she won’t be there for long!). So we did, and then Marisa and I went on to Jim-n-Nick’s at 5 points to have my work Luncheon. It was FUN! We ate cheese biscuits, played Dirty Santa and Marisa got to play with Cie’s little girl Berkley (who is so cute). Even THEY played Dirty Santa. Lots of lip gloss going on.

Decemeber 6

We are blessed to have such an amazing church. This morning was a great service. Beau and I tried to do a little relaxing today. And the girls watched "The Grinch." One of the greatest Christmas movies ever.

How many people have a 92-year-old Great-Grandmother who will play with them on the floor and teach them songs? Marisa does. She LOVES “Woo-hoo” Mimi, and Mimi loves her! Her first Great- Grand baby. Grandee and Mimi came by for a visit tonight on their way back from Laurel. Always good to see them.
Ashley’s slaving away at finals still.
Juju – would not let mommy put her down. So I gave up and held her while we watched the lighting of the tree at Rockefeller Center. Cheesy. Love Michael Buble, though. I know he’s a player. But, hey, his voice. I do NOT feel the same way about Barry Manilow, however. Watching him lip-synch was painful.
Time to do it again! 4:10 comes early in the morning. And it’s gonna be cold. 32 degrees. For 2 blocks. At 5am. Thank the Lord for North Face.

I probably will not include this in my Album, but Tiger, really? Really? Men. Good grief.

I am (for the second year in a row) doing a scrapbook album called December Daily. I am going to try to do a little bit about everyday, and I will try to post my journaling/pictures here. All in effort to reconnect with all 3 of you who read my blog.

No pictures today because I'm not in the mood, but here's my journaling:

I am going to make a SUPREME effort to make this Christmas meaningful. Purposeful. Christ came. He lived. He died. All for us. He gave. So we give. The significance is so lost. I am going to try everyday. Until Christmas. To make this season the best ever.
Back to work. For me and Beau. Ashley is studying for finals. Drew is working at Gold’s. The kids are a little cranky because they were out partying for 5 days and now have to go back to the routine. Dinner. Pulled out a NEW Veggie Tales Christmas DVD. Can always count on the Veggies. Funny. Laundry. Get ready for tomorrow. What did I just say about teaching the kids significance? I could stand some myself.

Hey, People!

I'm still here. My lack of blogging is most likely a result of my new schedule. Which is as follows: I get up at 4:15 in the morning so I can be at Children's Hospital to get all kinds of children ready to have surgery.
So tell me, if you were getting up at 4:15 would you be good at blogging? Me neither.

Marisa is loving Kindergarten, she's a super student and mom has adjusted. Julia Reese is liking her new school after a rough month of adjustment, but I'm thrilled with their program and now she is getting into it too.

We've got a full house here - all 6 of us! Come on down. Everyday is a party!

This weekend I plan on spending some time scrapbooking (yay) and running my first official 5K.

Wish me luck! I'll try to check in more often, but I'm not making any promises. :)

I have been so very reflective this week. It was a big first for me.

Marisa's first day of school.

And I can't help but think "I should not be doing this right now. I should not have a child old enough for school."

But I do.

I've just been thinking about how my life was so different before her. Here is a picture of me, waiting for her. Not knowing anything about her, just knowing I wanted to meet her.

Here is Marisa Elle Davis at three days old.

It was the best thing in the whole wide world to hold my baby.

At 6 months old, she was so adorable. Laughed and played. Those CURLS! Never slept. Made me want to pull my hair out. Totally had command of the ENTIRE household.

Oh, but everyone adored her.

And, here, wild-woman toddler. Wild, I tell you. So funny. She kept us in stitches until after 10pm, when she made us all cry. (Still not sleeping.)

Me, Beau, Ashley and Drew were her world, along with some very important grandparents and family members.

She loved food. She's always been a great eater. She would eat anything. (Don't hate - remember - she never slept.)

And now.

*Sob!*

Her first day of school. She's such a big girl. So tall. She can run so fast. She is starting to read. She will smile at the drop of the hat. She loves clothes. She loves music and dance and singing and her family and Disney Channel and puzzles and Barbie and wants to learn how to play the guitar.

I love you, Marisa Elle.

Mommy's so proud.

Hello, world.

Kiddos have been under the weather. But we have been LOVING this July weather! I feel like I am visiting my Aunt and Uncle in California!

I am also ramping up my fitness routine. While Ashley and Drew are doing P90X, (and, of course, you know I married Superman), I have been doing Body Pump and running. I have never been a runner. Never ever. But I'm doing a 5k soon, and more to come! Woohoo! I have to keep up with the rest of the Davis clan. No arm wrestling, though. I refuse.

How you know when you've had too much beach and it's time to go to the pool:

We had fun on our short beach trip, but , as any parent of small children will tell you, relaxing it was not. Beach, pool, potty, snack, pool, nap, pool, dinner, showers... each one an adventure. BUT no work and no house maintenance WAS a very nice change.

All's well that ends well.

Happy Summer! We are having fun with popsicles, sandbox, and going to the pool at the Y as much as possible!!! Notice Marisa's ever growing gap in her mouth as she keeps pulling teeth! That is BIG news in her world.

JuJu is getting SO big and talking all the time. She says the cutest little things, but is having a little taste of the terrible twos. You know the high-pitched squeals in the middle of the grocery store...and boy, has she learned how to fight Sissy for some toys!

Thanks to Granny for the sandbox. Getting us ready for the BEACH!

Dinner out the other night in their Mommy-made shirts. I think I need to do a whole post on the stuff I've been making. If you are thinking about making your kids clothes, don't!! It is NOT cheaper, so time-consuming. All-nighters. But, I have to say, I'm glad in the end. I love the finished product!

Ashley is back from China!!!! She had a great a time and has thousands of pictures...here are a few. She got a chance to spend some time with some Chinese college students and share the gospel!!!
She also got to tour Beijing - and the Great Wall!
Marisa said "Ashley, what did the Great Wall feel like?"

Well...

So. Here's the story. We have a desktop that is our primary computer, but it's in an inconvenient place to use, and it's older and slow, etc., etc. So when Ashley's computer died last year and she got a Mac (I am ten shades of green), we decided to reload her old laptop for our use. It's been working great, but I was living on borrowed time with it, anyway. Apparently, downloading Firefox was what did it in. So NOW, it is reloaded AGAIN. This time there is nothing on it, no Office, no Photoshop, just Internet Explorer, like, 6 or something.

I want a new Mac so bad!!! Hello, 2 kids in college and 2 kids in daycare. Not to mention this fab economy. But Beau and I have jobs, Ashley and Drew have jobs. No need to sell my house, because our house is fine, even if it IS packed to the gills. (Did I mention Ashley is moving back home to save money during grad school?)

So, I can make do without my WANTS right now, because, thank the Lord, our NEEDS are met. I am grateful. Even as I type, I feel an unbelievable sense of gratefulness. God has given me the most wonderful family, we have a home, and I have a future, a life away from the cares of this world, with him. Eternally. You and I can't take any of this stuff with us, anyway.

Encouragement for you: God's end game is to rescue us from this world completely. While, we are here, we will have trials. Everyone will. Some more than others. His ultimate plan is to rescue us. If you ask Him to. One day, we will ALL be safe. All you have to do is ask.

Seven years ago, this dress was hanging in my little apartment. Getting ready for the big day. My whole world was bridesmaid's shoes, ring inscriptions, programs, the right shade of lipstick, hanging out with my girls for one last hoorah. No bridezilla madness that I can remember. (I need to ask around and see if I remember that correctly. :)

Thought I would air this thing out. Marisa was extremely impressed. She's all about the gowns these days. I took some pictures of the details that I want to remember because I LOVE this dress. *Sigh* Can I do it all over again, please?

Neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt. It was really fun. But very drizzly. Hence the frizz. :) But I prefer drizzly to cold. Which it what it is today. Sorry, but 49 degress in April is NOT cool at all.

So...does anybody REMEMBER getting their shots as a five-year-old? Do you remember screaming and kicking the nurses? Well...yesterday was the day for Marisa Elle.

Not pretty.

I made Beau come because I knew it would be ugly. Let's just say Beau came out of the door looking like he had tangled with a wildcat.

All I heard was "NO. I DON'T WANT A SHOT! I DON'T WANT A SHOT! NO! NO! I HATE THIS! I HATE THIS! NO,NO, NO,NO! "

My pediatrician and I were standing outside the door, trying not to laugh. He said "Okay, she's going to use the 'I've got to go to the bathroom' trick in 5...4...3...2..."

"I'VE GOT TO GO TEE-TEE!!!!!!!NO, STOP! I'VE GOT TO GO TEE-TEE!

Vestavia Pediatrics is now in ruins. Boy, that was fun.

Today, Julia Reese is 18 months old. The time is flying by. She is talking so much. And imitating everything we do. She has also learned how to punch Sissy in the face. This is an altogether necessary skill, considering Marisa is always IN her face.

Easter is in a few weeks. Better finish those dresses. And thanks to Michelle for these adorable shirts from White Flowers.

Happy March! Did everyone have fun playing in the snow? We made a massive snowman who melted by about 4pm. Ha! I am ready for warm weather, sun, maybe a little tan....emphasis on "little."
I'm working tomorrow night through the "Bachelor" finale and a 2-hour episode of 24. Not sure how I am going to swing this just yet (since I work until 11pm). I guess I will come home and be up all night. Or I may just call my friends and have them hit the high points for me!

Happy Valentine's Day! It was a quiet one at home for us. I did decorate the dining room, which was fun. My hubby got me a cookie bouquet from Cookies By Design. Oh my gosh. So yummy. And I got flowers. I know, I've got it good.

Marisa wastes no time putting me in my place, however. This was our conversation on Thursday:

Marisa: "Mommy, you coming to my party at school today?"
Me: "No, baby, mommy's got to work. But Valentine's is Saturday, and we'll have lots of fun. So, Marisa.....
Will you be my valentine?"
(Awww, that was sweet, right? I thought so.)
Marisa: "Well.......
I have to be my friends' valentines', and, you know, I have to be my brothers and sisters and everybodys.

Mommy, it's not always just about you."

Big week....

Lets see. This week, I...

1. Turned 31. :(
2. Wished Marisa a Happy 5th birthday!
3. Worked in he Recovery Room and the Emergency Room.
4. Started an online class from an awesome artist. --------------->
5. Gone to the circus. (The real one. Not the one I live with at home every day.)
6. Got a new camera. (Thank you, honey!) Look for new pictures soon.

And we will have a party for Marisa this weekend with all her little friends!

Next week is Valentine's!! I love hearts and candy!! And flowers. (Hint to Beau.)

As for the puppy issue..........

I will have to wait. I HAVE gotten more educated in the past couple of weeks and think I will be ready to make a good decision when the time comes. Until then... I have PLENTY to do.

I just got bit....

with the dog bug. Since the"baby bug" is done biting at my house, I have found myself bitten by the dog bug. You know, you think, what a wonderful, perfect addition to my life they will be. Not think about them waking you up at 4am to pee and chewing your furniture and messing up your carpet and taking them to the vet for hundreds of dollars worth of shots.

Help me. Convince me of the pitfalls of succumbing to this. I need this bug out of my system. and fast. Before I do something drastic. Like, go get not just one dog, but two.

Maybe I should go on a shopping spree instead. BAD. But at least that would just be a one time deal.

HELP ME.

What angels.
That's how you get sucked in to parenting. You think, "Aww... she looks so cute pregnant! Maybe I will too." (Trust me, when you are pregnant, you do NOT feel cute. Not even a little bit.)
You think,"Aww, a baby! I can snuggle with it and hold it and look at it and dress it up pretty."
All things you can and will do, but you forget the parts about sleepless nights (which make you more crazy and irrational than you ever thought possible) or never being alone ever again (which is necessary every once in a while.)

The point of all of this is that the grass is not always greener. So, wherever you find yourself, it is best to be content.

So that is where I am. I am going to be content. Not always easy. But essential to my survival.
Phillipians 4:12 says"I have learned the SECRET of being content in any and every situation..." Which leads up to the verse that my buddy Tim Tebow (Congrats Gators!) wears on his eye black: v13 "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength."

I have to say....
Feeling better. My Christmas Spirits are lifted. I am trying to teach my kids the reason Christmas, and I've also been reminding myself. Christmas is about the ULTIMATE sacrifice, after all. God, sending HIS Son, for us. To die. For us.

Marisa is super-excited about Santa, who we talk about frequently but don't overemphasize. Plus, on Christmas morning, some stuff is from Santa, some from us. I don't want Santa getting ALL the credit. :)

So, I guess, we are doing something right, because TWO people have asked Marisa "Who is coming to see you soon?" Once she said "My family." The other time she said "Ashley."

I had to remind her about Santa, then she says, "Oh, yeah, Santa!"

One REALLY fun thing I have done this season is go to a neighborhood cookie exchange. It was really great, and I walked away with a TON of good stuff. Thanks to all the organizers!

The great thing is, Marisa says "AWWWW!!!! Somebody decorated our Christmas Tree!!!!"

In other news, Christmas is not the most wonderful time of the year. My Savior coming to earth has always been and will always be THE Reason. But this year, all the stuff I usually love I do not love so much. It's just too much. I have always heard people say it, but I've never been the one feeling it. Trying to do better.

Casting Crowns, Natalie Grant, Avalon , Etc were really fun last Saturday, though. That was a fun night out.

And who is Gene Chizik? I guess I will find out soon enough. SO sorry my buddy Tim did not win the Heisman again, because he totally deserves it.

Ibuprofen should be the 8th wonder of the world...

I mean, you give it to a whiney, slightly febrile kid and 30 minutes later- VOILA!!! Everything is fine. I know I take it for everything from a sore throat to a headache to my cursed knee and it makes everything better. I was definitely more excited about my first dose of Ibuprofen after having a baby than ANY narcotic, because I hadn't had it for 9 months. Yes, I know it can give you a GI bleed. Nothing in life is perfect.

And has anybody noticed how Obama's stance on abortion could affect us all? This could result in our own local hosptial, St. Vincent's, closing it's doors because they won't perform abortions. See here. Is anybody suprised by this? If you are, you shouldn't be. The economy, "CHANGE we can believe in" and being the first African-American president aside, he is EXTREMELY liberal. Which was my problem with him from day one. And it will continue to be.

How could anything so adorable be anything less than perfect? I am not sure how something so unbelievably high-maintenance can be so cute! Has anyone ever heard of Growing Kids God's Way? I am just learning about this curriculum, and wonder if there are any pointers you would like to share.

We are so SUPER blessed to have four beautiful, bright, loving and wonderful children. Every once and a while, though, it can be a challenge.

Also glad right now I am not a stock-broker or a politician. :)

FALL is so great to get outside! I am loving it. I used to be so cold-natured and would whine about it. Then I had a couple of kids and BAM! it feels great when the temp gets a little cooler!

As promised! Okay, so JuJu was the sweetest little birthday princess ever. My mom loves to regale me with stories about the fit I pitched at my first birthday, and Marisa literally ran in circles her first birthday. If I had to guess about the other first birthdays(and so I've been told), Ashley more closely resembled Julia Reese and Drew and Marisa are two peas in a pod. :)

So here she is, making her nose-wrinkle face. I mean, come on, how cute, right?

And enjoying her lady-bug cake, custom made by big sister Ash. YumYum.

Now how cute is this? It's such an amazing thing to sit back and watch growth take place. It is equal parts torture and immense satisfaction. I imagine God sees us very much the same way.
I have more pictures, but I'm having trouble posting them! Will try again soon.

In the meantime, what is everyone planning for Halloween? I grew up Ultra-conservative, so I was always a Bible Character for some "Fall Festival" - we kind of shied away from "Halloween." Even though I am okay with dressing up for trick-or-treat, we stay away from anything scary - I'm trying to teach the kids we need to constantly do what would please the Lord. since we ARE his prized creation, anything that might hurt us I think he is most likely opposed to.

Having said that, Marisa is beside herself about her Ariel costume. She wants Daddy to be King Trition and me to be Ursula. I think Ashley should be the Ocean. Of course, Drew is Prince Eric and Julia Reese is Sebastian the Crab. This is all in Marisa's perfect world.

I think, however, JuJu will be an angel. How sweet, huh? Meanwhile, I think I could do a perfect Sarah Palin. Ha!:) I have the glasses, just wear a business suit and strap on a hunting rifle!!!!!

Everyone has asked about Julia Reese, and she is doing great! She is such a big girl since she turned ONE on Saturday. Bittersweet. I'll have to post some pictures when I get a chance. Ha. Don't hold your breath. I have been working a lot more lately AND I'm re-learning how to sew. I am convinced I can be an expert seamstress with a little practice. I mean, my grandmothers and beyond all sewed because they had to, I should be able to do it without a hitch, right? We'll see.
In other news, Marisa's new facination is with getting married. She wants to know who she's going to get married to, when she's going to get married. So I've been telling her we have to pray about it, and when God is ready, He'll let her know.

She says, "Well, I'm ready now."

Wow, it is almost fall. Anybody but me amazed at how quickly time passes? Julia Reese is 3 weeks out form her surgery and is doing awesome. She is trying new sounds (that you can't make unless you have a palate), and eating better. AND she took two steps! Toddler-world, here we come. The next year will ofter be accompained by the phrase "She's into EVERYTHING!"

If you are back from the holiday, on September 2nd please tune in to Rick and Bubba. I will be in the studio!!!!!!!! Along with Ashley, my mom and my mother-in-law. I can't wait! It's going to be a blast. We just watch, hopefully no speaking required. I would probably blubber like an idiot or sound like a redneck - I HATE to hear myself talk. I mean, do I really sound that bad? Don't answer that.

Since I'm a nurse, you have to understand, I see some awful stuff. Everyday. I am so thankful that, as emotional as this was, it is what it is. God spared us from a much worse prognosis. I am so utterly grateful.

Julia Reese is doing so well, learning how to crawl despite her arm restraints. Trying to eat. What a trooper. The rest of us are just doing great. Thanks for the continued prayers.

Hey, All! We are home. Dr. Grant let us come home yesterday despite a very fitful night. I think let us go a day early since I'm an RN. I DO recover his patients all the time, after all. He is a world-class surgeon, and an A+ guy. Not to mention all my buds in PACU, 1-day and Anesthesia. Thanks, guys.

So, Julia Reese is doing pretty well. Still needs some pain meds, but sleeping better. Eating fairly well. Baby food is actually easier than sucking a bottle. She never could suck anyway.

Learning to crawl with her arm restraints on is tough, but you know, kids are so amazingly adaptable. That is why I work in pediatrics. Kids WANT to get better. Adults would just lay in bed and whine all day. Kids are GOING to find a way to play.

She really has been an angel. Ashley, Granny, Aunts Lisa and Mel have been huge helps. And MawMaw and PawPaw kept Marisa for a couple days. That was a huge blessing. It was great to have my dad and my Mimi here, and thanks to my mom and Gran for the prayers. Mimi Hurst cooked us dinner, so we have been WELL taken care of.

Well, hey! I have not had the most fun day ever, but I am done with my surgery and now on to recovery! The stitch you see in my tounge will come out tomorrow and I will get to go home tomorrow or Sunday! I am not sure how to eat now, so that is my biggest challenge. Well, I've had so many thoughts rolling around in my head the last few weeks, and I think "I should blog about that!"

But, can I just tell ya, managing this family of 6 is QUITE a job. Somedays I really do not know which end is up, nor do I know what I have done all day. Like today, for instance. I have SEVERAL things to do before we go to the hospital tomorrow. Some things will get done, some will have to wait!

So, big day tomorrow. I am so fortunate to know PERSONALLY almost all of the staff that will be involved in Julia Reese's care tomorrow, and I am SUPER confident in their abilities. On the other hand, I know too much.

Keep us in your thoughts and prayers! I will try to update after her surgery is over!

If anyone out there was wondering what a wonderful husband looks like, here you go. I am continually amazed at how God has blessed me this with man. When we first started dating, it seemed so unlikely that we would make such a great pair. It didn't make much sense - But God knew. So thank you, Lord. And thank you, Beau Davis. You show me day after day how much you love this family and how much you love me.

Sorry to get all sappy, but it was Valentine's Day last week, and since we all had a virus, we are celebrating this week.

Hey, everyone!! I had tubes put in my ears on Monday, and that was NO FUN! But I am now feeling better. I also lost my sweet great-grandmother MaeMae this week. We will miss her.

Mommy and big sis Marisa have birthdays this weekend. Marisa is excited and Mommy is not. (Big 3-0)

Happy 2008! As much as I love the holidays, I'm glad they are over!!!!! Things are going well for us. Julia Reese is getting bigger and we are happy with her progress. Hope everyone starts this year off right! I, for one, want to :

get closer to God

be more organized

paint 7 rooms in my house

live like I was dying! (I'm not, I just don't want to have any regrets, ya know?)

Hello! We are still here and trying to adjust to sleepless nights again! Julia Reese is such an angel, but feeding her remains a little challenging. But, she is gaining weight and holding her head up and SMILING! That little smile makes everything worth it!!!!

Thought I'd share some pictures Beau and I took this weekend. Julia is doing great and her appetite is quite healthy. We are really happy with her progress! She's an angel! Thanks for looking!

Whew. Well, this has been quite a week. After 4 days of poor feeding and losing weight, we took Julia Reese to the doctor on Tuesday. She actually has a cleft palate that will need to be repaired by a plastic surgeon. They will repair it when she is about 10 months old and thay don't anticipate any other problems long term. Fortunately, it is just her palate, not her lip, and it is not a severe cleft palate anyhow. We are having to adjust her feeding, and use different bottles, but she is fine and we are fine(well, mostly). Otherwise all is well!!! I hope to put pictures up of her growing and gaining weight in the future!

Wow! Sorry so long between posts! I have had killer morning sickness (afternoon, evening) and I feel like I could sleep 16 hours a day. BUT, that is all getting MUCH better! And this week we find out...whether it's a boy or girl! So I will update very soon!

Happy new Year!!!!!!!!! Christmas was lots of fun this year. Marisa is now officially rotten! More toys than K.B.! Ashley and Drew are very well dressed thanks to Santa this year. Beau got me a new camera and Adobe Photoshop and he got an iPod. Here are some snapshots from Christmas morning.

This is a picture of the kids visiting with MaeMae, one of their GREAT-grandmothers! This is Beau's grandmother on his dad's side! She so sweet and loves us to visit (don't do it enough.) Call your grandmother RIGHT NOW and tell her you love her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is Marisa being a big ham. She is all about some cheese!!! This picture makes her look so BIG. She looks so grown up here, not like a baby. She's almost 3, and I can't believe it. They change so quickly, and you're ready for them to get to the next stage, then you realize they are!!! But that means they are growing up! She's closer to being a teenager, now. Scary! Gotta love this stage right now!!!!!!!!!!

Marisa is learning the alphabet and how to sound out words. She's so smart, I know. But sometimes it's not quite right. Like , yesterday, she said, "G,G, Green!"

I said, "very good, Marisa!" I was so proud.

And then she says, "G, G, Yellow!"

Followed by "G,G, Orange!"

Okay so maybe she needs a little work! :)
